About Dennis Chinaworks

Tucked away in the picturesque village of Shepton Beauchamp is Dennis Chinaworks.

Founded in 1993 by Sally and Richard Dennis, Dennis Chinaworks is an extraordinary art pottery studio based in the converted stables of a Victorian Gothic rectory in Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset. Drawing on a rich legacy of British design and craftsmanship, the pottery produces striking hand-thrown and hand-decorated vases, bowls, boxes, and dishes collected worldwide.

Sally Tuffin, a leading designer of the 1960s with the fashion house Foale & Tuffin, later became design director at Moorcroft Pottery before establishing Dennis Chinaworks. Her distinctive style reflects a love for the Arts & Crafts movement, beautifully balanced by the contemporary design of Buchan Dennis. The making team, Buchan Dennis, Vanessa Thompson, Theresa Blackmore, and Rory McLeod, create each piece from start to finish. Thrown on the wheel, decorated with incised and slip-trailed designs, coloured with underglazes and oxides, and finished with a clear glaze, every pot bears the unique signature of its decorator.

With 90% of production heading to UK galleries, collectors’ fairs, and specialist shops, and international reach as far as America, Australia, and the Cayman Islands—Dennis Chinaworks remains a true treasure of Somerset’s artistic heritage.
