About Muchelney Pottery

Muchelney Pottery, located in South Somerset, is a renowned studio established in 1965 by potter John Leach, grandson of famed potter Bernard Leach. Nestled in the scenic village of Muchelney, the pottery draws on traditional techniques to create beautiful, functional stoneware and pottery pieces that celebrate the heritage of English ceramics.

After Johnny Leach died in August 2021, Mark Melbourne became the sole potter at Muchelney Pottery. John’s eldest son, Ben Leach, took over the business, with help from Nick Rees’s daughter, Rachael, who manages the office.

The studio is known for its use of natural glazes and wood-firing, which give each piece a distinctive, earthy quality that reflects the Somerset landscape.

Visitors to Muchelney Pottery can explore the gallery, meet the artists, and take in the delights of the Somerset Levels. Muchelney Pottery is a vibrant part of Somerset’s arts and crafts community.
